Students will be able to describe the properties of optical wave guides. They will be able to discuss problems associated with optical connectors. They will know how to make a variety of optical measurements on telecommunication fibers. Students will be able to describe the elements of a fiber-optic telecommunication system. Students will also be able to describe the characteristics of some planar optical devices and some components of optical integrated circuits.
